Everyone can agree that vacations are amazing, but packing a travel wardrobe is usually less than relaxing. I personally always pack much more than I need. A few weeks ago, I went on a weekend trip to Florida and squeezed a thick sweater into my already cramped carry on bag. Now, why did I bring this for a 3 day trip to a place that is consistently humid and 90+ degrees? I couldn’t tell you. When packing for a vacation, my motto is “just in case!” as in “what if I get invited to a ball? I should bring this formal dress just in case!”. I know it makes no sense and is such a waste of space, but I also know I am not the only one who does this! Everyone who I talk to seems to have the similar problem of over packing for vacations. Let’s put an end to this! I put together a list of just seven pieces for your best travel wardrobe that you can transition from day to night throughout your trip.
A white t-shirt is a necessity in basically any occasion. For a summer trip, you will be wearing a white t-shirt constantly. For a casual daytime look pair it with a pair of denim shorts and gladiator sandals. At night wear it knotted at the waist with a denim skirt, wedges, and a playful long necklace and earrings to dress it up. You can seriously wear a white t-shirt every day, the only problem is is that it may get dirty easily, so it may be a smart idea to pack a backup.
Striped Button-Down Shirt
What I love about the looks this summer is how stripes and gingham are making such a comeback. A white and blue striped or gingham button-down is perfect for both a cover-up at the beach, a lunchtime outing, and for a dinner date at night. It is so easy to take this piece from the beach to a classy place for dinner. Wear it unbuttoned with a white t-shirt underneath, or tied at your waist with a denim skirt during the day. Pair it buttoned up and tucked into white jeans and espadrilles or wedges, depending on how nice your occasion is, for a clean night time look.
Black tank top
A solid black tank top is such an underrated piece. I have been loving the combination of black and denim this summer, so packing a black tank top as a part of your travel wardrobe is very much necessary. Just like a white t-shirt, you can wear it during the day with your denim skirt, but the dark coloring is easy to make it more formal at night. Pair it with your white pants and wedges for an eye-catching a nighttime look. The contrast of the white jeans and the black top will be sure to get you tons of compliments.
Denim skirts are back! The iconic 2000s look is making a reappearance this year and I couldn’t be happier. Denim skirts are such a great piece to easily transition from daytime to nighttime because they are both casual and dressy depending on how you style them. It doesn’t matter what shade your skirt is, white, blue, or black, you can seriously wear it 24/7. During the day I love wearing it with a t-shirt or tank top for something cute yet casual. Wear it at night if you’re going out with a pair of wedges to show off your legs!
Summertime is amazing because white not only is acceptable again, but it is amazing. White jeans look pretty great on everyone and also emphasize your summer glow. Wear them with flat shoes such as gladiator sandals or espadrilles during the day, and wedges at night! As I said before, wearing white jeans with a button-down shirt is such a classic look that is effortless and timeless for all occasions.
Gladiator sandals or espadrille flats
Both of these shoes are casual enough to wear anywhere, including the beach or pool, but also dressy enough that they instantly make your outfit more trendy. They are super comfortable to walk in and will make your outfit slightly more dressy. These are the perfect universal shoe to pack as part of your travel wardrobe, as you can wear them out to dinner or even walking around during the day!
A great summer nighttime look is always completed by a great pair of wedges. There are so many options of what type of wedges you can wear! I personally have a pair of espadrille wedges that are equal parts trendy and classy. They look amazing with both a skirt or a pair of pants. The nude color of the espadrille matches with just about everything and makes your legs look extra long!
Your travel wardrobe should be comfortable, easy, and most of all make you feel amazing. When you’re on vacation the last thing you should have to worry about is choosing an outfit! By combining these seven pieces in multiple ways you will be sure to create so many cute outfits. After packing this way for a trip, you will never return to cramming your suitcase with everything in your closet again!
